| Alfredo Castro,
Ecuador Alfredo Castro is an
immigrant from Ecuador. He saw an opportunity for a better life and a better
education in the United States. This desire was compelling enough for him to
leave his country and his family. His parents and all his siblings still
live in Ecuador, except for his twin sister who lives in Spain. Alfredo does
not communicate with his family often, but he thinks of them always.
Alfredo had what he calls a normal life in
Ecuador, filled with school, soccer, and friends. After he graduated from
high school, he served in the army for a year. At that point, he decided to
come to the United States.
Alfredo studies English at Green River
Community College. He lives in Kent and works as a subcontractor laying
carpet, vinyl, and ceramic tiles. He would like to continue his studies and
some day become a teacher. He would like to help Latino immigrants because
he understands how difficult it is to make one’s way in a new country. “I
know that I still have a long way to run, but it’s a thing that I really
want to do, and I’m pretty sure I can do it.”
He is thankful for the opportunity to come to
the United States and he hopes to live here for the rest of this life. |
