Ways to learn about campus closures:
Guidelines
-
The college will always be open for
employees. The normal message relayed to the media pertains to the schedule of
classes for a particular day. Only a SUSPENDED OPERATIONS announcement would
signify the complete closure of campus to students and employees.
-
If you do not hear a message
regarding college operations, assume that the college is operating on its normal
schedule.
-
Please do not call the campus
operator. Get your information from the media or the Internet. Likewise, please
do not call for voice mail messages during peak morning hours.
-
There are a number of factors that
are part of the decision making process on whether classes are canceled. The
college collects information from the Washington State Patrol, King County
Police, county road crews, neighboring school districts, City of Auburn, and our
own staff members.
-
Green River Community College is not
part of the Auburn School District. If you hear a message regarding the Auburn
School District, it does not apply to the college.
-
Devise inclement weather procedures
for yourself and your co-workers. Have alternate routes to campus and a
phone-tree notification system for those in your department.
-
Let students know if they can rely on
you to make it to campus during inclement weather conditions.
-
Green River’s Child Care Center
operates on procedures established by the Children’s Home Society, which
notifies employees, whether to open or close. The Child Care Center records a
message on its phone system for students to hear.
-
Separate announcements may be made
for the College Enumclaw Campus and Skillstream.
-
If an employee chooses not to be at
work because of inclement weather, he or she may take the TIME OFF WITHOUT PAY
or receive pay by notifying the appropriate office immediately, and upon return,
file a Report of Absence From Duty form.
