You may submit questions or provide feedback regarding this project to Sam Ball. Project Description After much consideration and a process gathering of feedback, Green River decided to renovate and expand the Occupational Education Building, B to include a Welcome Center and an expanded Assessment and Testing Center. This new facility will serve all students and facilitate college entry for potentially at-risk students. The welcome center will directly support entering students. Because many students are discouraged when they receive their COMPASS assessment, for example, advisors will be on hand to help them understand that they can use these results to enroll in appropriate courses. Among the services offered will be admissions, advising, counseling, career guidance and resource referral. Students can ask questions and be directed to the appropriate office (e.g., tutoring, financial aid, housing). Students will be available to guide new students to the appropriate campus office. The new Testing and Assessment Center will include general testing rooms, DSS-related testing areas, support staff areas and storage. Services will include classroom testing, COMPASS assessment, General Educational Development, certification and distance learning class testing, as well as assessment of learning outcomes and possibly some new areas of testing dictated by the needs of the community. The four classrooms in the existing building will be renovated. The new center will be created by adding approximately 5,000 square feet to the existing 4,800 square feet Occupational Education Building, A, allowing adequate space for several critical college programs. This center is a matching fund project with 50 percent of the costs provided by state funds and 50 percent by contributions to the Green River Community College Foundation. The design and permitting stage will occur July 2005 – June 2007 with construction to begin in summer 2007.
