How to Apply for Financial Aid |
The Department of Veterans Affairs has approved most program offerings at Green River Community College for veterans/dependents who meet eligibility requirements under the Veterans Readjustment Act of 1966. The following information will provide general guidelines. Please stop by or call the Veterans Office for more specific information, as well as to determine whether you qualify to receive educational benefits and how to activate and maintain those benefits. Activating Benefits When initially applying for educational benefits, it is necessary to provide a certified copy of the Veterans DD-214 to the Veterans Office. The county courthouse can certify the DD-214 at no cost. The Department of Veterans Affairs requires that 1) a DD-214 be submitted to Enrollment Services to have military experience translated for college credit, and if applicable, 2) transcripts of all prior college credits also be submitted to Enrollment Services for evaluation and translation. This must be completed by the third quarter so that benefits are not interrupted. Educational benefits are also available to eligible members of the National Guard or Selected Reserves who currently have a commitment of 6 years (or greater). A Notice of Basic Eligibility (or NOBE) needs to be requested from your unit and brought to the Veterans Services Office to start the application process. If you have any eligibility questions, call a local Reserve or National Guard Unit or call the VA toll free at (800) 827-1000. Standards of Progress A VA student who fails to make satisfactory progress in a given quarter will be placed on probation at the end of the quarter. A VA student who fails to make satisfactory progress in two consecutive quarters will be decertified and educational benefits will be canceled. The student will have to successfully complete one quarter, without benefits, earning at least a 2.0 GPA before they can be certified for educational benefits again.
