GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Green River is seeking an outgoing, self motivated and organized individual to serve as the Bookstore Manager Assistant at the Paper Tree Bookstore. This individual will help implement goals and maintain organization within the store. The applicant will supervise a full time employee and several hourly employees, adhere to Paper Tree Bookstore standards, maximize productivity, and help train staff. This position involves everyday interaction and assistance to students, parents, alumni, faculty, and staff on campus. Strong communication and people skills are required.

SPECIFIC DUTIES: 

Cashiering Responsibilities

  • Manages all cashier functions

  • Orders all supplies needed for the cashiering operation

  • Handles cash register voids, refunds, and price overrides

  • Prepares daily bank deposits

  • Reconciles the bank deposit report with our records

  • Oversees weekly balancing of safe

  • Prepares daily sales, monthly sales, tax reports, and all other reports needed by the business office

  • Maintains logs for gift certificates, safe loans, and other logs required by business office

Staffing Responsibilities

  • Supervises Retail Clerk Lead and part-time hourly bookstore staff

  • Regularly assigns, instructs and checks the work of bookstore clerks, check stand operators, temporary staff and/or others

  • Prepares all paperwork for new part-time hourly bookstore staff

  • Reviews and authorizes payroll paperwork

  • Performs related duties as required

Additional Key Responsibilities

  • Performs data entry for all financial aid and department accounts

  • Manages the textbook desk copy accounts

  • Provides customer service in all areas of the bookstore

  • Performs closing operation of the store

Secondary Responsibilities

 

When business needs arise, the position also:

  • Performs the duties of Retail Clerk Lead and Retail Clerk II

  • Operates cash registers

  • Buys back books from students, retags and shelves

  • Makes student ID cards

  • Provides customer service for fax services

  • Provides assistance to other areas

  • Provides assistance on machine rentals

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED certificate
  • 2 + years of retail management experience (selling, customer service, merchandising, ordering, inventory control)
  • 2+ years supervisory experience (scheduling, training, management, performance reviews)
  • 2 + years creating and producing reports in a perpetual inventory POS system
  • 2 + years handling cash reconciliation functions including preparing bank deposits
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong computer skills
  • Must be able to work evenings and flexible hours during peak times

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • College degree in business, marketing or accounting
  • Experience working with Sequoia Point of Sale Software
  • Prior experience in a college bookstore setting
  • Experience working with financial aid

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work in a semi-open office setting with frequent interruptions.
  • Frequent use of computer and exposure to terminal screen in performing work assignments.
  • Must be able to lift fifty pounds and operate a hand truck loaded with one hundred pounds.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

This is a 12 month per year, 40 hour per week, overtime eligible position.  Salary range starts at $2,920  per month with periodic increment increases up to $3,819 per month. Typical work schedule is Monday – Thursday, 11:00 AM - 7:30 PM and Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM but schedule may vary to meet business needs.

Appointment to the position includes a state benefits package of employer-paid health and dental plans, participation in a Washington State Department of Retirement Systems plan, sick leave, vacation, and paid holidays.  Other fringe benefits include tuition exemption, convenient daycare, and on-campus fitness center.
