Green River Community College is a two-year public college in Washington state that offers degrees/certificates in academic and professional technical programs, as well as courses in continuing education and developmental education. Located on 186 acres, Green River is committed to maintaining the ecological integrity of the main campus’s forested growth. The Enumclaw Campus is located in the historic downtown area of Enumclaw, just blocks from unique stores and eateries.  A core of about 120 full-time and 210 part-time faculty teach day and evening classes. The Social Science Division at Green River Community College is seeking innovative and creative faculty who are committed to establishing positive working relationships with students, colleagues, staff and administrators.

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The primary responsibility of this position is to teach students and foster a professional environment which is conducive to learning.  The secondary function of this position is to facilitate appropriate operational policies and procedures of the institution.

In addition to teaching duties, responsibilities of this position include reviewing and improving instructional materials and methods, assisting students in program planning and course advisement, regularly holding scheduled office hours for contact with students, maintaining professional expertise in Economics, and participating in the selection, orientation and evaluation of adjunct faculty.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Economics, or an equivalent degree with a significant amount (at least 45 credits) of college courses in Economics
  • Two or more years of successful experience teaching Economics courses at the college level as the instructor of record
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and cooperatively as a faculty member

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two or more years of successful experience teaching both Macroeconomics and Microeconomics courses at the community college level
  • Successful experience developing and teaching online economics courses
  • Ability to foster an interesting, effective learning environment in a college course
  • Demonstrated interest and experience in the use of varied technologies in the classroom
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, colleagues, staff and administrators
  • Commitment to program planning, student mentoring and student advising
  • Participation in Economics education organizations and professional activities

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a full-time tenure track position beginning mid-September 2012, continuing with annual nine month contracts. The salary will be determined according to the candidate's educational background, teaching experience and applicable work experience.  GRCC is an agency shop.

Selection Procedure:

A selection committee will screen all applications.  Candidates may be contacted on a conference call.  Selected candidates will be invited for personal interviews at the candidate’s own expense in accordance with State of Washington travel regulations.  Interviewees may be asked to give up to a 20-minute classroom teaching demonstration. Candidates requiring equipment must contact the Office of Human Resources no later than one week prior to the interview date.  The selection committee will recommend finalists to the Vice President.
