GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Instructional and Classroom Support Technician 3 is responsible for coordinating instructional support activities for the Practical Nursing and Nurse Assistant programs.  This position will assist Nursing faculty with SIMS instruction and support services for a variety of courses including the liaison with off campus clinical sites.  The Instructional and Classroom Support Technician 3 receives general supervision from the Dean of Instruction for Professional Technical Programs & Workforce Education. 

Distinguishing Characteristics:

Senior-level class responsible for coordinating instructional support activities, designing/developing instructional support programs or designing and constructing equipment.  Under general direction, provides support to courses requiring an emphasis in complex design and development tasks such as developing experiments/demonstrations where only general theoretical concepts are identified, designing instructional support applications based on current research findings.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Inspects, tests, adjusts and does major repair of scientific and laboratory support equipment, including but not limited to the SIM family
  •  Develops scientific instructional programs, demonstration models , including Nursing Modules and laboratory procedures in conjunction with assigned faculty/teacher
  •  Designs, constructs and tests equipment used for lecture demonstrations or laboratory experiments using the SIM family and other lab equipment as appropriate
  •  Coordinates laboratory support, maintenance and store room functions
  •  Evaluates equipment specifications and makes purchase recommendations
  •  Provides training for students and faculty in a specialty area such as a specific computer software program, including all SIM related software
  •  Maintains computerized inventory of all lab materials and equipment
  •  Performs the duties of Instruction & Classroom Support Technician 2
  •  Acts as coordinator of shop or laboratory controlling all equipment, chemicals and use of space
  •  Designs/develops computer software for use in SIM laboratory courses
  •  May direct assigned personnel
  •  May teach laboratory portion of selected classes
  •  Performs related duties as required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current licensure as a Practical Nurse for the State of Washington (LPN)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) AND two years of full-time experience as an Instruction & Classroom Support Technician 2 OR equivalent education/experience.

SALARY

$20 per hour

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

This is a part-time hourly position up to 16 hours per week, according to office needs. 

Part-time hourly employees who work 350 hours or more in any 12 month period are covered under the WFSE contract and will be required to pay dues.
