Mervyn Tsui: Top Transfer Student
Mervyn Tsui is majoring in
economics and math and is
transferring to the University
of Southern California in the
fall 2009.
Mervyn Tsui was
born in London and grew up in Hong
Kong and mainland China. He
came to Green River Community
College in the fall of 2007. His
major is Economics and Mathematics
and he will be transferring to the
University of Southern California
(USC)
in the Fall of 2009.
"USC was my first choice
college," said Mervyn. "My father is
an alumni there. He is very happy
that I am attending."
"I chose economics as a major
because my grandfather was an
engineer and my father is a business
man. Also, this is a subject
that I am weak in and I want to
improve myself in this area.
When I graduate I want to be able to
help fix the inequalities between
the rich and poor in all countries."
Mervyn really enjoyed his time at Green
River. He got involved in many areas
on campus. He served as a finance
senator for ASGRCC (student
government), he worked for TRIO
as a math tutor, he volunteered in
the Math Learning Center, and
he was president of the chess club.
"ASGRCC was most memorable
for me. In the beginning I had a
hard time presenting my ideas
clearly. ASGRCC helped me a
lot with that. It gave me the
opportunity to learn
about the American culture, it
helped me with critical thinking,
and it made feel like I was really
contributing to the student body."
