Khulan: International Student
Ambassador
Khulan works on campus as an
International Student Ambassador and is
also the
recipient of a two Foundation Scholarships.
Khulan Tumurbat is
from Mongolia, a country northwest of
China. She is 19 years old and came to
Green River Community College in the
winter of 2008. She is majoring in
Psychology and hopes to transfer to
the University of Texas, Austin this
fall.
Khulan was able to help finance
her education at Green River by
working on campus and receiving two
scholarships. She currently
works as an International Student
Ambassador which pays her about
$1300 per quarter. As an ISA Khulan
helps international students feel at
home at Green River. She also plans
events that bring students together.
Some examples are the Pumpkin
Carving Contest, New Years
Celebration, Talent Shows, Chinese
New Years, "Keeping it Green" Week,
and Nirvana Day - a day of good
deeds.
Khulan said, "As an International
Student Ambassador, I learned how to
communicate successfully, organize
my time effectively and at the same
time I created beautiful memories
and great friendships that will last
a lifetime."
Khulan also received a
Meritorious scholarship worth $1,000
and a Social Science Scholarship
worth $300.00. "The
scholarships really motivated me and
encouraged me to keep moving towards
my dream," said Khulan.
"GRCC is one of the friendliest
places I have ever visited. There
are so many resources and I
had so much support. I
collected a lot of stars on this
campus. I feel confident I can move
on...but this place will always be
in my heart. I will miss everyone."
