Julia Chen, 19
and Juliana Chen, 18 are sisters from Taiwan who share two things in
common: Green River Community College and a love for art! Julia and
Juliana came to Green River to take classes that would prepare them
to transfer to a four-year university with a good art program.
Julia's goal is to attend the
University of Illinois and major in Industrial Design and
Juliana's plan is to transfer to
University of Texas, Austin
or Texas
Tech University to
major in Fashion Design. Both sisters will graduate from Green
River in June 2008.
Julia said, "I have been very impressed with the teachers' teaching
style at Green River. It is very different from my country. For
example, my Art Instructor, Cindy Small, always encourages us to
discover our own artistic style. She does not stress perfection, but
more the exploration of ourselves."Juliana
loves clothes and bright colors. She was most impressed with having
live models in her drawing class. "Figure drawing is difficult, but
very important, especially since I want to study fashion design."
Green River has been a great place for the Chen sisters to get
the foundation in art they need to transfer to a top university
and make their career dreams come true. "We have made a lot of
friends here, we have learned a lot about the American culture and
we have had fun!"
