US University Education: A Solid, Long-term Investment

November 2008

As the global economic turmoil continues with roller coaster stock markets and dramatic currency fluctuations, families around the world are concerned about the present financial situation as well as uncertainty about the future. During these difficult economic times, what is certain is that US university education is a solid, long-term investment.

Studies show that university graduates earn more than students who do not go on to university.  Families who invest today in university education for their children set their children up for success in tomorrow’s global economy.  A university degree from a top US university is proven to hold its value over time and around the world.  Many of the world’s best scientists, engineers, and business people hold degrees from US universities.

The United States remains the world leader in higher education.  According to the 2008 Shanghai Jiao Tong Academic Ranking of World Universities (, 17 of the top 20 universities in the world are US institutions.

International students from all over the world take Green River Community College’s 2+2 Program (2 years plus English, if needed, at GRCC and 2 years at a university).  Between 2005-2008, our students have reported admission to the universities indicated below.  Universities in bold represent top 100 world universities, as ranked by Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
