Administrative Assistants work in a wide variety of office settings. The training program at Green River offers extensive, hands-on computer education, up-to-date office procedures, and possible credit for prior experience.

In today's office, the primary duties of an administrative assistant are to collect, process, and disseminate information. Through Green River Community College's Administrative Assistant program, you can earn an Associate in Applied Arts degree or a certificate.

Administrative Assistant graduates can seek employment in the following areas:

  • airlines

  • attorneys

  • banks

  • computer firms

  • doctors' offices

  • insurance offices

  • marketing companies

  • schools

  • secretarial services

Graduates are prepared to work in a wide variety of occupations, such as:

  • data entry clerk

  • administrative assistant

  • freelance typist

  • receptionist

  • records management positions

  • technical administrative assistant

  • word processor

When can new students enroll?
You may enroll in the Administrative Assistant program at the beginning of any quarter. The program hours are flexible with day, evening and some on-line classes.

Prerequisites
Complete an application to Green River Community College, complete the COMPASS assessment, and meet with an advisor.

We highly recommend that a student have a GED or a high school diploma before entering the program. Communication (written and verbal) and
organizational skills are vital.

How long does the program take?
It depends on you. If you attend full time, the Associate in Applied Arts degree requirements may be completed in six quarters and the certificate requirements may be completed in four. If you attend part time, completion will depend on how many credits you earn each quarter.

Special fees
Courses requiring special equipment have additional fees.

Personal requirements for success
Administrative Assistant students need to be task- oriented, flexible, and able to adapt to changing situations.

Does the program transfer to four-year schools?
Courses in this program are primarily professional/technical.
All transferability of to four-year institutions is at the discretion of the receiving institution. Students should contact an advisor at the college to which they intend to transfer.
