Basic Education

Classes are offered at Green River for people who want to:

  • Improve reading skills
  • Improve writing skills
  • Improve math skills

Requirements

  • Students will be given a skills assessment before being allowed to register. Students between 16 and 19 years old must get a Release of Student form from their high school before they can register for these classes.

Cost

$25.00 tuition per quarter.

Class Times and Locations

Basic Skills classes meet at various times and sites in Auburn, Kent, Enumclaw, and on the main campus. See quarterly class schedule for specific times and places.

Basic Education Classes

ADULT BASIC EDUCATION provides instruction in basic reading, writing and math to help students acquire fundamental academic, vocational and adult life skills.

GED PREPARATION helps students master the skills required in writing, social studies, science, reading, and mathematics to pass the GED exam.

ADULT BASIC MATH helps students improve basic math skills in order to function better in their daily lives, perform job-related math tasks or prepare for college-level math classes.

ADULT BASIC READING 1 provides students the opportunity to learn phonetic skills and basic sight words that help them to decode the sounds of English and to increase vocabulary in order to improve reading comprehension.

ADULT BASIC READING 2 provides students the opportunity to learn reading strategies and techniques that improve their understanding of reading materials for work, study, and pleasure.

ADULT BASIC WRITING helps students improve basic writing skills to help them communicate more effectively in writing and perform job-related writing tasks.

ABE/GED WRITING covers paragraph development and essay organization, and prepares students for college-level writing classes.

BASIC SKILLS REVIEW is for students who need to work on one of the basic skills areas.
