Legal Administrative Assistant
Associate in Applied Arts Degree

You can be ready to work in a variety of office settings after just six quarters of attending school full-time, earning a degree as a Legal Administrative Assistant. Graduates work in such environments as attorneys' offices, court systems, the military services, and insurance companies.

Green River Community College offers a two-year Associate in Applied Arts degree program in the field of legal office education. Legal Administrative Assistant graduates are employed by:

  • attorneys

  • court systems

  • government offices

  • insurance companies

  • military

  • mortgage corporations

  • secretarial services

Graduates are prepared to work in a wide variety of office occupations, such as:

  • legal administrative assistant

  • office manager

  • transcription typist

  • word processor

When can new students enroll?
You may enroll in the Legal Administrative Assistant program at the beginning of any quarter. The program is offered both days and evenings to meet your needs.

Prerequisites
Complete an application to Green River Community College, complete the COMPASS assessment, and meet with an advisor.
A GED or high school diploma is highly recommended before entering the program. Communication (written and verbal) and organizational skills are vital.

How long does the program take?
It depends on you. If you attend full time, the Associate in Applied Arts degree requirements can be completed in six quarters. If you attend part time, completion will depend on how many credits you earn each quarter.

Special fees
Courses requiring special equipment have modest fees.

Personal requirements for success
Legal Administrative Assistant students need to be task-oriented, flexible, and able to adapt to changing situations.

Does the program transfer to four-year schools?
Although classes for the Legal Administrative Assistant program are primarily professional/technical in nature, some may be accepted for transfer at a four-year institution. A student planning to become a Business Education teacher should consult a Business Education advisor.

The placement rate for the Legal Administrative Assistant program is quite good. The Student Employment Office will assist you with your job search.

Salary range
The current starting salary range for a Legal Administrative Assistant graduate is $1,500 to $2,500 per month.
