Earn GRCC credits in Spanish Language while studying in Cusco, Peru this summer!

Visit ancient Inca ruins, temples, colorful markets and experience Inca communities and traditions.

Classes:
Spanish Language courses will be taught by local instructors from Amauta Spanish Language School in Cusco.

Accommodations:
Housing accommodations are in single rooms with carefully selected local families in Cusco and includes all home stay meals.

Application Requirements:
Students with a GPA of 2.5 or higher are eligible to apply. Transcripts are required. Minimum age is 18 (17 with permission).

Cultural Activities and Excursions:
This program offers a series of cultural activities, field trips and and excursions, which may include:

Orientation program  in Cusco consisting of an orientation meeting with AIFS staff, student information packet, welcome reception and half-day guided sightseeing tour of Cusco by private coach including entrances to the Inca Temple of the Sun, Koricancha and the archaeological ruins of Sacsayhuaman.

Short trek ending at the Inca ruins of Machu Picchu including round-trip train tickets; porters (to carry luggage and equipment); round-trip bus transfers from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu; guide and entrances to Machu Picchu; and overnight accommodation in a tourist-class hotel in Aguas Calientes in a twin-room basis with breakfast, one lunch and one dinner.

Guided day trip to the Sacred Valley by private bus including visits to the old Inca community of Pisac to experience the colorful market and the Inca Temple of Ollantaytambo to see the traditional squares and streets.

  • Access to the wireless-enabled AIFS Study Center and services of an experienced AIFS Program Coordinator

  • Access to the student computer lab located in the AIFS Study Center with free e-mail and internet facilities

  • Student medical and program fee refund insurance policies

Not included:

  • Airfare

  • College tuition and books

  • Passport and visa fees

  • Telephone and internet facilities at other locations

  • Additional field trips or excursions that may be required by faculty

  • Personal and entertainment expenses

  • Meals other than those listed

  • Independent travel and expenses before or after the program

  • Anything not specified as included in the program
     

Program Fee:  $2,645 (based on an enrollment of 15 or more participants)

This fee excludes airfare, a $125 refundable damage deposit, optional medical insurance upgrade ($65) and optional personal effects coverage ($90). This program fee is guaranteed not to change as a result of fluctuations in the $ exchange rate.

Application deadline:  Tuesday, June 2, 2009
This program is offered in partnership with AIFS (American Institute for Foreign Study) and application and payment must reach them by this date.

Optional Transportation Package:

On a space-available basis, students may purchase the optional transportation package consisting of round-trip airfare (Seattle/Cusco/Seattle) and round-trip transfers overseas between the airport and the housing in Cusco for an additional $TBD excluding mandatory US government and airline imposed departure taxes, fees and fuel surcharges of $TBD (subject to change) for which students will be billed separately.

A minimum of 10 students must purchase the flight for it to be offered.
