TRiO Successes

The TRiO Student Support Services project at Green River Community College provides opportunities for academic success for 200 first-generation and/or low-income students and students with disabilities.  We do this by actively providing comprehensive academic support services and encouragement to our participants.  Our overarching goal is to increase graduation and baccalaureate transfer rates for our students and to foster a climate support of the success of SSS-eligible students.  We do this by a variety of methods and through different activities, including, but not limited to:

  • Advising:  Assist students with academic advising, including course selection, career advising, and financial education and literacy training

  • Tutorial Assistance:  Provide core content specific individual tutorial assistance through TRiO individual peer tutors AND refer participants as needed to other collegiate tutoring centers

  • Workshops:  Provide a variety of PowerPoint presentations on study skills, test-taking tips, communication strategies, etc.

  • Textbook Lending Library:  Through using donations, provide textbooks for various courses through a lending process, so the books can be reused on a quarterly basis.

  • Field Trips:  Provide field trips to nearby baccalaureate institutions so students can visit prospective colleges

  • Financial Aid Application Assistance:  Provide scheduled days and times to assist students with their federal financial aid applications

Please review our 2010 Community Report and our TRiO Department Accomplishments, Indicators of Service, and Indicators of Performance to learn about the overall impact of this program for our participants.
