Workshop
Description
No system is
immune to contamination from backflow. Backflow from a cross connection is a
potential cause of every water quality complaint. This course will help
utilities plan to provide effective responses to backflow incidents.
Participants will learn how to apply advanced risk assessment principles to
complete a vulnerability analysis and prioritize responses to contamination
events. Sharpen vital skills through tabletop exercises that will clearly
demonstrate how to investigate, respond, mitigate and recover from a variety
of incidents including, colored water, tastes and odors, loss of pressure
and debris in tap water. Find out how to put together a field kit of
essential tools, equipment and materials to facilitate backflow incident
response. Learn key questions to quickly get essential information and
accurately pinpoint whether or not backflow might be the cause of a water
quality complaint. Learn to apply strategies to minimize system downtime and
damage, decrease costs and reduce potential health effects.
Participants will learn:
-
Write a water quality complaint/backflow incident
procedure to fit your system.
-
Interview customers, record complaints and advise affected consumers.
-
Develop a “tool kit” of equipment, supplies and materials
-
Apply assessment principles to classify risk levels in facilities
-
Identify potential high risk problems and respond to water quality
complaints
-
Recognize and respond to a variety of complaints such as color, taste
and odor, low pressure and debris in the water
-
Plan
and implement a step-by-step investigation including; customer
notification, sample collection, record keeping and Backflow Incident
