KSD’s College Bound Scholarship Conference a great success
The Kent School District second annual College Bound Scholarship Conference was held at Green River on Saturday, October 13th.
Kent School District's (KSD) second annual College Bound Scholarship Conference, which featured an opening speech by Green River President Dr. Eileen Ely, was a great success.
Other speakers included Debbie Straus of KSD, and words shared on behalf of Dr. Lee Vargas from Israel Vela.
The conference, held Saturday, October 13, enjoyed a vigorous turnout and enthusiastic participation by an estimated 500 people.
"People were so eager for the event," said Randy Nuñez, KSD College and Career Family/Community Liaison. "We had families show up an hour before check in."
Some of the conference highlights:
- The College Resource Fair was filled to capacity during the entire event.
- More than 30 seniors participated in the College Application Completion event, during which many completed applications on the spot.
- A parent workshop that had room for 100 people was over capacity.
- The Parent Panel in which panelists shared their experiences of sending their children off to college led to high audience participation and engagement.
"Throughout the event, I heard nothing but appreciation for the conference and eagerness of our families for additional college planning," said Nuñez. "We are all one step closer to college success for our students."
