“The Current” earns first-place statewide, and several additional awards

Green River's print and online student newspaper, "The Current," walked off with eight awards in seven different categories at the Washington Community College Journalism Association's annual awards luncheon Saturday, May 11.
Held at Pierce College's Fort Steilacoom campus in Lakewood, the luncheon included student publications from throughout the state. "The Current" won a first place trophy and third place certificate for staff editorials. It also came in third in the general excellence category, which measures the combined quality of writing, photography, editing, design and layout.
Individual awards included a second place award in sports feature writing for Dylan Whitcher, editor in-chief, a second place for personality profile by Imana Guwanan and a second place in sports news by Megan Krzyzanowski.
Other individual winners included third place in photo illustration by Dominic Yoxtheimer and third place in headline writing by Asha Johnson, last year's editor-in-chief.
