Basketball: Gator men munch the Penguins, women Gators find them too slippery

2013 started off fast and furious for the Green River basketball teams as they played four games in seven days to open the league season.

The Gator men improved to 3-1 after they outlasted the Clark College Penguins 60-57 on Wednesday night at the Swamp.

The dynamic duo of Kortney Darby (SO, Chicago, IL) and Kendall Brown (FR, Anchorage, AK) scored 13 and 11 points respectively. In every game played thus far on the season, one of the two players has led the team in scoring.

Meanwhile the women also playing four games to start the year dropped to 1-3 on Wednesday after being defeated by the Lady Penguins.

Brittani Miller (SO, Maple Valley, WA) led three players in double digit scoring with 14. During the opening stretch, Green River defeated South Puget Sound 59-46 on Monday night. For the season, freshman guard Carley Kitzman (FR, Naselle, WA) is leading the team in scoring with 11.08 ppg.

Both teams will enjoy a break this weekend before hosting Lower Columbia College on Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
