Gator Sports Update
Green River's basketball programs received an early Christmas gift Dec. 23, 2012, as the two teams were victorious at home.
The women's team (1-7) fired on all offensive cylinders against Edmonds College with a 67-47 final to give them their first win of the season. Christy Kullberg led all gators in scoring with 14 as Carly Kitzman (12), Puja Taya (10) and Kelsey Morgan (10) all finished in double figures.
Meanwhile, the men (8-3), coming off their second place finish at the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges crossover tournament, used the balanced attack of five double-digit scorers to hold off a feisty Northwest Indian College 84-82. Marquis Miles set a career high with 22 points and led the Gators in scoring. Nate Jones was outstanding in his first start at point guard, in which he scored 12 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, had seven assists and even grabbed five steals. Mitch Haggerty, Kevin McCrossin and Kendal Brown all added 14 points, as well.
Both teams are returning to the Swamp for the NWAACC West Region opener against cross-valley rival Highline Community College Wednesday, Jan 2. The women are set to tip-off at 6 p.m., the men will play at 8 p.m.
