International students volunteer in the community
Despite their foreign citizenship, Green River international students embrace their local Auburn community and generously volunteer their time and energy for their American neighbors.
From March 1, 2012, to Feb. 28, 2013, 364 international students volunteered 1,696 hours to local organizations. The monetary value of their volunteerism multiplied by the minimum wage exceeds $15,580.
More than 17 nonprofit organizations benefited from the students' hard work, including the Brain Injury Association of Washington, Greenwood Food Bank, King Conservation District, Volunteers of America and the YMCA.
By volunteering, students receive expanded cultural learning through service which enriches both their education and our community.
