Green River students honored as members of the All Washington Academic Team
Kevin Hartoyo and Xintong "Sara" Li were honored on Thursday, March 27 at South Puget Sound Community College as members of the All Washington Academic Team. Applications are taken each fall for the Phi Theta Kappa - Coca Cola All USA Community College Academic Team. Two students are nominated from each community college. Kevin and Sara were chosen to represent Green River.
At the ceremony, Kevin learned his achievements earned him fourth place out of all 68 representatives in Washington state. He was honored onstage and received a $1,000 scholarship for his academic excellence.
Lt. Governor Brad Owen gave the keynote speech and met every student as they were photographed during the event.

Kevin Hartoyo's experiences growing up in Jakarta, Indonesia, motivated him to achieve his goal of becoming a bioengineer.
Working alongside his mother, a doctor, and seeing firsthand the effects of cancer, Hartoyo is driven to develop a cure for cancer. He volunteers as a mentor, tutor and peer volunteer to help students learn English; he helps others find resources; and he supports international students as they learn their new country and American culture.

Xintong "Sara" Li
Major: International Studies
Sara Li understands the power of knowledge. Raised by her single mother, Li and her brother learned responsibility, self-reliance, and independence at an early age. Her mother taught her not to let fear of failure be a barrier to achieving her goals. With that as her guide, Li plans to earn a doctorate and work in non-governmental organizations with a goal to work for the United Nations to advance human rights. Sara is the current president of the Alpha Chi Beta chapter of Phi Theta Kappa.
