The recently formed Green River track and field team continues to create its foundation in the sport with impressive marks in 2012. Most recently Sophomore Josh Melu (Auburn Mountainview HS) was named the NWAACC Athlete of the Week for his performance at the University of Puget Sound Shotwell Invitational. Melu competed in three events including the 4 x 400 relay, the long jump, and his best event the triple jump. He won the meet in the triple jump with a mark of 46 feet 8 inches. Melu finished in second place as a freshman in the triple jump at the NWAACC Championships and has his eye on the top award this year.
Melu was invited to participate in the prestigious University of Oregon Relays along with his teammates Jacob Wilcher (hurdles) and Lisa Petersen (sprints) and traveled to Eugene on Friday April 20 to participate in the legendary Hayward Field sports complex. During the contest Josh jumped 48 feet 0.25 inches breaking the old mark set by Chris Cook in 1989. He finished in third place behind two University of Oregon athletes, a great feat.
