Record Number of Students Celebrate Graduation
An estimated 576 graduates walked the stage at the ShoWare Center to receive their diplomas at the 2012 commencement ceremony held Friday. This was the largest class to participate in graduation in Green River's history. Close to 100 faculty, staff and administrators were also in attendance to give the graduating class a congratulatory send off.
Michele Perrin was named winner of the President's Award from a slate of five nominees for the college's highest award. The nominees were Marissa Baker, Margaux Pinney, Mingze Sun and Ping-i Yang. Perrin, who is a recovering drug addict and a graduate of WWEE, enrolled in Green River in January 2011 and walked with a 3.83 GPA. The President's Award recognizes the student "who has exhibited professional promise and outstanding citizenship, personal qualities and grade point average."
Also recognized at the ceremony were 84 Scholastic Award winners, 103 Running Start graduates. Each division chose a student to receive its award. They were joined by an international student award winner, running start award winner, diversity award winner and six leadership and service award winners. Three faculty members, Ajay Narayanan, Keith Hoeller and Avis Adams were recognized with Distinguished Faculty Awards.
