Student Life Seeks Student Soccer Stars for Benefit Tournament
Student Life is looking for students to play on the Green River team in the indoor soccer 2012 Play with a Purpose Cup tournament on August 11 at the Pacific Sports Center in Tacoma. Transportation from Green River will be provided. Students interested in playing on the Green River team should sign up at Student Life or contact event coordinator Zack Rude.
Teams consist of six players, which include substitutes, but most teams are made up of nine to 10 people. At least three women must be on a team for the team to be considered co-ed. Each game lasts 25 minutes, with each team expected to play a minimum of three games throughout the day.
There is a $5 per person fee. Players must be current Green River students over the age of 16 and must have proof of insurance. People interested in watching the games also need to sign up in Student Life. The event is sponsored by International Programs.
All proceeds will go to The Global Team, the tournament's organizers. Funds will benefit education by utilizing soccer in Haiti and Uganda. G.O.A.L.S. Haiti works with youth in community work as a way to improve quality of life and teach leadership skills. ARISE Foundation Uganda provides training, guidance and counseling to teach young men and women life skills.
