Green River parking 101

It's time for Green River Community College's Parking 101. In this short course, you will learn where to park and how to cut down on your frustration when trying to find an on-campus parking spot.

Lesson #1

Green River's on-campus parking lots will be filled by 8:30 a.m. The majority of students are on campus between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Don't drive around the lots waiting for that single spot to open up. Get smart (see Lesson #2).

Lesson #2

Park at Pacific Raceways and ride the Green River shuttles to campus. Thousands of parking spots are available at the raceway, and it's no hassle: you drive in and park. Shuttles run from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific Raceways is located just east of the Highway 18 and SE 304th interchange (about 2.3 miles from campus).

Lesson #3

Pick up a guaranteed parking pass. For $100 a quarter, you are guaranteed a parking space in Parking Lot P5 from 6:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. You can get one at Campus Safety in the AD Building or call 253-288-3350 or at the Cashier's Office in LSC or call 253-833-9111, ext. 2050.

Lesson #4

Don't get caught in traffic. Peak traffic times leading to campus are from the bottom to the top of each morning hour. It is not uncommon for traffic to be backed up for 1 mile or more leading onto campus.

Lesson #5

Look for signs. We will post "Parking Full" signs at campus entrances when the on campus lots are full. Also look for directional signs that will show you the way to the Park and Ride at Pacific Raceways (see Lesson #2).

Lesson #6

Don't park in the surrounding neighborhoods. Most of the nearby neighborhoods are posted as No Parking and carry a hefty ticket from the Auburn Police.

Lesson #7

Permit parking is for designated parking stalls such as Staff, Disabled, Carpool and Visitor. Do not park in these stalls if you do not have a permit.

Lesson #8

Carpool parking passes can be picked up at the parking information booths as you enter campus. This one-day permit allows you to park in a carpool spot from 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., if available.

Lesson #9

Parking will get better. The first two weeks are always crazy, but it does get better.
