2008-09 Recruits

Green River is pleased to welcome the men’s basketball recruiting class of 2008-09 as announced by head coach Tim Malroy:

Michael Crudup – Cleveland High School

Crudup was a First Team All Metro League selection his senior season, as well as Third Team All Metro his junior year.  He averaged 15.5 points per game as a senior for a Cleveland team that went 15-9, just missing the state tournament.

Coach Malroy on Crudup:
Mike was known primarily as a shooter/scorer in high school, but we believe he can be an outstanding all around player.  He has the physical tools and mental toughness to come in as a freshman and contribute at multiple positions.  Mike is determined to succeed and I have no doubt that he will do so with the tremendous support he will receive from his family.

Cory Toombs – Kenai High School

Cory is from Kenai High School in Soldotna, Alaska.  He was First Team All Conference his junior and senior year, and he was awarded First Team All State his senior year in the 4A division, taking Kenai to the state tournament and finishing fourth.  He averaged 14.5 pts, 6.4 reb, and 4 assists per game his senior year, taking those numbers up to 17.7 points and 7 rebounds during the state tournament.

Coach Malroy on Toombs:  We are lucky to have Cory coming to play basketball at Green River.  He is very athletic and runs the floor as fast as anybody I’ve recruited.  He shoots very well from deep (39% from 3pt. range his senior year) and is strong enough to finish at the basket with contact.  Cory is going to have a chance to make an immediate impact for us as a shooter/scorer and leader.  He is a good student, and we expect big things from him this coming year and in the future.

Jake Wilcox – Kentwood High School

Jake was the point guard for the 16-4 Kentwood Conquerors.  He was honorable mention All- SPSL while averaging 5 points and over 6 assists per game.  His assist to turnover ratio was over 2:1.

Coach Malroy on Wilcox:  Jake is one of those pass-first, coach-on-the-floor, do-whatever-it-takes-to-win type guys.  In addition to his high basketball IQ, he is very tough-minded.  He learns quickly and rarely makes the same mistake twice.  I like his hunger not only to play the game, but excel at it.  Those traits combined with his work ethic tell me he is going to be special for us.

Mike Hunter – Thomas Jefferson HS

Mike averaged just under 10 points per game his senior year and was Jefferson’s best defensive player.  He scored 18 points against Emerald Ridge and 17 points twice against Kent-Meridian and Decatur.

Coach Malroy on Hunter:  I love Mike’s natural defensive skills and his willingness to try and shut guys down defensively.  Mike comes to us with a nice offensive skill set that we will be helping him expand as the year progresses.  Mike never takes a play off on the court, he is relentless and can often wear guys out due to his superior conditioning.  He is an outstanding young man with high expectations of himself on the court and in the classroom.  His future is very bright.

Other Signees/Commitments:

-J.R. Richey – 6’0” Guard – Thomas Jefferson H.S.

-Shermarkie Ibrahim – 6’5” Forward – Thomas Jefferson H.S.

-Allen Ginnett – 5’11” Guard – Service High School (Alaska)
