he Artist & Speakers Series has been engaging both the campus and surrounding communities for over 30 years. Student Life has successfully hosted a diverse collection of lecturers and entertainers each year. In the past GRCC has presented Dr. Maya Angelou, Jane Goodall, Carl Sagan, Sherman Alexie and Dr. Cornell West among others.

We welcome the return engagement of this born survivor, prolific writer, comedic entertainer and author of The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-time Indian, Green River’s One Book Choice for 2012-2013. Alexie was awarded the PEN Faulkner Award in 2009 for his book War Dances. His book The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven was released as the award winning film Smoke Signals at the Sundance Film Festival in 1998.

J.R. Martinez

November 2012, J.R. the actor, spokesman and retired soldier, graced the cover of the People Magazine as the Sexiest Man Alive and is one of their Most Intriguing People of the year. In 2003, he suffered burns to over 40% of his body, when trapped in a humvee in Iraq. J.R. claims that the experience was certainly life-changing, but amazingly for the better.

Sounds of Hawaii

Our 9th Annual Sounds of Hawai'i will feature Kaumakaiwa Kanaka'ole, a five-time Na Hoku Hanohano award winner along with other popular artists of island music, comedy and includes hula with our ever popular local halau Ke'ala'O Kamailelauli'ili'i under the instruction of Kumu Hula Kamaile Hamada.

All seats are reserved! GRCC students can only pick up their one free ticket in advance when purchasing tickets for nonstudents. All other GRCC student tickets will be distributed at the event.

Save on individual ticket prices, avoid the lines and sell-outs by purchasing season tickets. Season tickets ordered after our Nov. 1st, 2011 deadline, and all individual tickets will be seated on a first-come, first-served basis.
