New eLearning Students

Welcome new eLearning students. Thanks for choosing us for your eLearning classes.  If you are registered for a DL class, your printed schedule will list it as Section DE, TEL or WOL and under time it will say ARR.  If you haven't registered yet, follow the directions below.

If you're unsure if eLearning is for you, try the Self-Assessment and read about what makes a good distance learner (links to your left).

How to Register for a eLearning Course

Step 1: Admissions

eLearning students must go through the admissions process.  The first step for a new student is to apply for admission. The admissions section of the Green River website describes the process in detail.

Step 2: Choosing Classes and Registering

Once you have completed the admissions process, go to the Class Schedule to choose your classes. The Class Schedule has a complete alphabetical list of all DL classes offered each quarter (see Step 3 for an example).  Copy the item numbers of the classes you want and go to the registration section for instructions on how to register.   If you have questions about registration you can email student advising at BeAdvised@greenriver.edu.

Step 3: The Class Schedule

After you have registered, return to the Class Schedule and scroll down to find your classes.  For each class you'll see a line similar to the example below.  The first row is an example of a class listing and the second row is an explanation of what's in each cell.

Step 4: Getting to your Class

If there is a link to login instructions on the line for your class, click on the link for directions on how to determine your login ID and password.  Then return to the class schedule, scroll back to your class and click on the link for the login page.  Green River and WAOL classes use different login IDs, passwords  and login pages.  Once you enter your login ID and password you'll be taken to a page with a list of your classes in a box labeled My Courses.  Click on the link for a class and you'll enter the classroom.

If there is only a link to a website on the class schedule, your class doesn't use Blackboard and clicking on the link will take you directly to the class.

Step 5: Settings

Configure your browser according to the directions below.

  • Please make sure you have turned off all pop-up blockers.  You can find them in stand alone programs, in antivirus software, in toolbars such as Google's, and in firewall software.  They must be disabled or some features such as online testing will not work.

  • Make sure your browser is set to accept cookies.  Bb sets a session cookie and will not allow you to log in if you block cookies.

  • You'll need the latest version of Java and you can find it here http://www.java.com/en/download/windows_ie.jsp  on the Java website for the download.  If this link doesn't work, go to http://www.java.com and select Software Downloads.

Step 6: How to Get Started with my Course

Go to Getting Started With My Course page for detailed information.  If you have problems accessing your course, you may find the answer to your questions on the FAQ page.
