BASIC DESCRIPTION: This
adjunct faculty position is responsible for preparing and providing
integrated ESOL and/or ABE instruction in I-BEST (Integrated Basic
Education and Skills Training) courses in one of the following
professional/technical areas: Welding, Natural Resources, Auto Body,
Child Development Associate, Early Childhood Education, General
Office Assistant, Accounting, or Fundamentals of Caregiving.
Specific Duties:

Provide instruction in vocationally specific
reading, writing, and math, speaking and listening

Collaborate with professional/technical
instructors, division chairs, departmental coordinators in ABE
and/or ESOL and/or other content area experts to develop
content-based ESL and/or ABE curriculum that matches the goals
and objectives of the particular project

Maintain communication with team teacher and
I-BEST Faculty Coordinator to ensure streamlined program for
students

Use a variety of instructional strategies
appropriate to the needs of learners

Select and use a variety of resources to
facilitate learning including realia, technology, and everyday
print materials
-
Maintain communication with the basic skills
departments on a regular basis, and complete all needed
paperwork for a program funded by the State Office of Adult
Literacy

Conduct end of the quarter assessments in
accordance with program and state assessment policies
-
Prepare and distribute a quarterly course syllabi
appropriate for the level of the student population

Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
B.A. degree in education or closely related field and TESOL/Adult
education certificate; classroom experience as a teacher, aide,
volunteer, tutor or intern.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
MA in TESOL or Adult Basic Education, or other related area and with
certificate, experience
teaching GED students, immigrants and refugees, experience teaching integrated content based
basic skills; experience with team-teaching.
SKILLS:
-
Knowledge of adult teaching methods, assessment, and
instructional materials.

Knowledge of other cultures, preferably refugee cultures.

Ability
to use and create materials for multi-level classes.

Understanding of Washington State Adult Education standards.

Experience with CASAS appraisal and pre/post assessment.
- Ability to be
self-directed, and responsible in meeting federal, state, and
college reporting and testing deadlines.
SALARY: The salary will be determined
according to applicant’s educational background, teaching experience
and applicable work experience. The total number of hours to
be taught may vary from 66 to 132 hours per quarter. Most
courses will be available in the evening, four nights per week,
three hours per night.
