GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision of the Custodial Service Manager (C.S.) and/or Custodial Maintenance Lead or Backup Lead, perform custodial assignments and/or tasks to maintain institution's cleanliness, safety, and care of facilities within his/her designated area, while following assigned work standards. Also may perform other related duties as required by the C.S. Manager and/or Custodial Maintenance Lead or Backup Lead.  Designated work areas may change to better facilitate the needs of the institution.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Clean restrooms, offices, classrooms, labs and other areas according to the established work standards.
  • Conduct routine preventative maintenance on all custodial equipment and lighting replacement in designated area and inform supervisory element of any necessary maintenance repairs needed in area.
  • Maintain necessary custodial supplies in custodial closet by placing appropriate orders.
  • Serve as support for weekday and weekend campus events. Will provide assistance when necessary during schedule events. For example, garbage removal, restroom cleaning, and other duties.

POSITION COMPETENCIES:  

  • Able to work in adverse conditions such as rain, ice, wind, extreme hot and cold temperatures.
  • Able to work in cramped spaces, work on ladders, move objects weighing 25 to 50 lbs continuously and 50 to 100 lbs occasionally, with or without accommodation.
  • Able to understand and follow verbal and written instructions in English.
  • Teamwork: able and willing to work cooperatively and respectfully with others.
  • Able to complete work tasks independently.
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods and safety practices.
  • Experience operating custodial machines or similar equipment including electrical and manual hand tools.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

This is a 40 hour per week, 12-month per year, overtime eligible position.  Salary range starts at $1,929 per month with periodic increment increases up to $2,482 per month plus shift differential of $104.40 a month.  Anticipated work schedule is Monday–Friday, 10:30pm to 7:00am. Occasionally hours will vary to meet business needs.

A union shop agreement exists for this position which requires membership in the Washington Federation of State Employees within 30 days of hire.

Appointment to the position includes a state benefits package of health and dental plans, participation in a Washington State Department of Retirement Systems plan, sick leave, vacation, and paid holidays.  Other fringe benefits include tuition exemption, convenient daycare, and on-campus fitness center.
