POSITION PURPOSE:
The Director of Disability Support
Services is responsible for the leadership, coordination, and
strategic direction for the College's comprehensive disability
support services program. The Director provides enrolled and
perspective students with disabilities, equal access and the
opportunity to participate in college programs, services, and
activities.
This position authorizes legally mandated accommodations and
provides initial academic advising and referrals to campus and community
resources; and investigates ways to increase students with
disabilities representation and enhance persistence and graduation
rates. The Director of Disability Support Services also performs
administrative functions such as budget management, strategic
planning, policy development, customer service, and assessment.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership and Strategic
Direction:
- Act as liaison to the GRCC campus in terms of program
content, policies and procedures; develop and foster relationships with staff and faculty to
promote professional development opportunities and curriculum
development in the areas of disability support services.
- Consult with campus community in addressing issues of
recruitment and retention of students with disabilities;
facilitate activities, programs, and dialogue campus-wide to
promote disability throughout the college community.

Interpret, advise and implement policy and procedures in
order to comply with federal and state law with regards to
access and disability accommodation (Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), RCW28B.10.910-16).
- Supervise disability records management with strict
attention to protection of confidentiality of all student
records and in accordance to FERPA regulations. Maintain records
on GRCC students with disabilities and monitor as appropriate
the academic progress of students.
- Supervise recruitment, interviewing, hiring, orientation,
training, evaluation, and termination of DSS personnel who
provide services such as program coordination, visual or
sign-language interpreters, mobility assistance, testing
assistance, readers, scribes and proctors.
Coordination Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the campus ADA Compliance Officer on
policies, procedures, and other matters related to providing
equal access to students within the academic classroom. Assist
with ADA compliance of buildings, parking, classroom setups,
etc. Coordinate and facilitate the GRCC ADA committee to identify and
resolve access and compliance issues.
- Participate in campus meetings as directed
by supervisor.
- Maintain accurate records of office operations and budget
expenses to satisfy various reporting and auditing requirements and
funding proposals.
Program Responsibilities:
Policy and Procedural Responsibilities:

Administer continual program improvement efforts; including
evaluative program assessment and revision.

Manage/maintain inventory of materials and assistive equipment
that can be used as auxiliary aids for students.
- Maintain accurate records of office operations and budget
expenses to satisfy various reporting and auditing
requirements and funding proposals; prepare and maintain
administrative records and reports.
- Evaluate disability documentation from qualified
professionals. Conduct intake interviews with prospective,
newly admitted, and currently enrolled students who are
interested in obtaining disability accommodations; inform
students of special services available to them for
remediation, academic assistance, and other needs.
- Authorize reasonable accommodation plans for disability
of individual students, and consult as appropriate with
staff, faculty, advisors, and administrators. Provide
initial academic advising, referrals to campus and community
resources and perform on-going case management for students
with disabilities.

Seek alternative funding opportunities through grant writing
and active participation in campus grant initiatives.
Training and Development:
- Develop/provide orientation, workshops/seminars, and
other training for faculty and staff to disseminate
disability information to assure compliance with the ADA and
Section 504. Act as an information resource for students,
faculty and staff and the community.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's Degree required in student
development, social work, counseling, disability studies,
vocational rehabilitation education, or related field.

Outstanding commitment and significant
experience working with students with disability populations.

Two years experience in an educational
setting providing direct service to students with disabilities.
-
Demonstrated ability to develop,
coordinate and implement professional development workshops.
-
Familiarity of ADA, Section 504/508 of
the Vocational Rehabilitation Act, and the Washington Core
Services (RCW28B.10.910-.916).

Demonstrated skill and competency in
data-gathering, analysis, synthesis and problem-solving skills.

Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise staff.
-
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
-
Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft
Word, Excel and PCs.
PREFERRED
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of 2-3 years of professional experience in a college
or university setting
- Established record of experience in working with
underrepresented students.
- Experience advising student groups.
- Assessment and budget oversight.
- Grant Writing experience.

TERMS OF
EMPLOYMENT:
This is an exempt position with an annual salary range of $52,900. Position includes an
excellent state benefits package (health and dental
plans, participation in TIAA-CREF Retirement Plan, 24 vacation days
per year, 11 paid holidays per year, and 12 sick days per year).
Other fringe benefits include tuition exemption, convenient daycare,
and on-campus fitness center. Occasional
work occurs during the evenings and on weekends.
