POSITION PURPOSE:
As the
chief academic officer of the College, the Vice President of
Instruction is responsible for providing collaborative and decisive
leadership, motivation, and direction to a team of administration,
staff and faculty to promote educational success, community and
workforce preparedness and academic excellence.
KEY
RESPONSIBILITIES:
-
Provide
strategic vision, policy analysis, and organizational support to
instruction and for instruction to the President, President's
Staff, Board of Trustees, the College and the community that
Green River serves.
-
Establish and
effectively communicate goals and objectives that support the
College’s mission and learning objectives; encourage innovation
in teaching and learning while providing administrative
leadership for accreditation and its activities.
-
Promote and
ensure high quality instructional programs and services
consistent with accreditation standards and best practices. Lead
program planning and development; administer ongoing program
review and evaluation; lead full time and adjunct faculty
recruitment, development, retention and evaluation; ensure
appropriate instructional facilities and instructional equipment
and technology.

Strategically
plan and develop new programs that support the needs of the
community and ensure that instructional offerings are effective
and current in the areas of transfer, professional technical and
basic skills programs.

Direct and
support instructional administration and staff through
appropriate hiring, development, evaluation and succession
management.
-
Provide
instructional support of the enrollment management process by
ensuring the College provides coursework that meets the needs of
students and within budget and staffing limitations.
-
Participate in
negotiation of collective bargaining agreements and contract
administration; responsible for building collaborative
relationships between faculty, staff, administration and between
all instructional areas, inclusive of International Programs.

Understand
funding models and direct budget development by deans;
prioritizes budgets as they relate to needs of divisions and
services to support the goals of the College and assure fiscal
accountability; provide leadership and support development of
creative and ethical alternative funding sources.

Provide
leadership in building and maintaining articulation and
collaborative activities with other institutions (K12 and higher
education), public agencies and boards, as well as with business
and industry; develop partnerships with community organizations
that support the College’s mission and goals.

As a member of
the Foundation board, responsible for developing relationships
and resources with the district community to support the
Foundation’s mission.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
-
Understanding
of and commitment to the comprehensive community college
mission.
-
Master’s degree
from an accredited institution and at least five years of
progressively responsible administrative and/or dean-level
experience in higher education.
-
Demonstrated
understanding of and experience with all areas of instruction:
academic transfer, professional/technical workforce education,
adult basic education. Understanding of the integration of
continuing education/contract training and international
programs into a comprehensive instructional plan. Knowledge of
the challenges and opportunities of classroom teaching.

Demonstrated,
professional and successful experience in budget planning and
financial management; staff management and administration,
accreditation and strategic planning, curriculum and program
development and assessment.

Demonstrated
and successful experience with collaborative, interest-based
collective bargaining. Proven ability and commitment to
providing faculty with leadership and accountability, support
and encouragement, professional development and resources.

Ability to
effectively communicate and promote the mission of the
institution through multiple means and methods with a variety of
populations of diverse racial, social and educational
backgrounds.

Commitment to
and successful experience in promoting diversity, global
perspectives, and addressing change.
PREFERRED
QUALIFICATIONS:

Doctorate
degree and experience as an administrator or dean in a
comprehensive community college

Teaching
experience

Grant
management, application, and report writing experience
TERMS OF
EMPLOYMENT:
This is an
administrative, exempt position with an annual salary
of $113,000 to $125,000
with an anticipated start
date of January 3, 2012. Occasional work during the evenings
and on weekends may be necessary. Position includes an excellent
state benefits package (health and dental plans, participation in TIAA-CREF Retirement Plan, 24 vacation days per year, 11 paid
holidays (10 plus personal) per year, and 12 sick days per year).
Other fringe benefits include tuition exemption, an on-campus
fitness center and the ability to participate in voluntary deferred
compensation programs, Guaranteed Tuition Program and a flexible
spending account (FSA) program.
