POSITION PURPOSE:

Holman Library at Green River Community College is seeking a reference/instruction librarian with a strong commitment to service to meet the information and research needs of a changing student population. This population includes a growing number of international, online, under-prepared and under-represented students.

BASIC DESCRIPTION:

This is a full-time tenure-track faculty position beginning mid September 2010. A separate summer contract is available dependent on funding. The faculty librarian reports to the Director of Library and Media Services and is a member of the Humanities Division. This assignment is on the main campus in Auburn, WA.

BASIC FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:

1. Instruction, Reference, collection development, and other duties required of all faculty librarians:

  • Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to further the mission and goals of the college and the library
  • Provide reference and research assistance at a busy desk in the library's information commons
  • Promote information literacy while working with students, faculty and staff
  • Design, deliver, and assess information literacy instruction across disciplines in one-on-one, classroom, and online settings
  • Participate in collection development by working with faculty in assigned subject areas
  • Perform outreach on behalf of the library 
  • Other duties as assigned

2. The following functions are required by the GRCC faculty contract:

  • Perform duties expected of all Humanities Division Faculty including writing evaluations of teaching performance and attending division meetings
  • Provide academic advising to students
  • Serve on campus committees
  • Other duties as outlined in the faculty negotiated agreement

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • ALA-accredited master’s degree in library and/or information science
  • Experience creating and delivering information literacy instruction
  • Academic reference experience including experience with electronic information tools
  • Excellent communication skills in oral and written English
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively
  • Demonstrated experience working with people of diverse backgrounds, including those with disabilities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to service students
  • Understanding and support of the community college mission

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • One year of reference experience in an academic library
  • One year of academic or library instruction experience, including assessment
  • Work experience in a community college library
  • A record of involvement in the campus community, innovative projects, or professional organizations
  • Web design and development experience
  • Experience working with course management systems

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a full-time, tenure-track nine month position beginning mid September 2010. The salary will be determined according to applicant’s educational background, teaching experience, and applicable work experience.  GRCC is an agency shop.

Selection Procedure:

A selection committee will screen all applications.  Candidates may be contacted on a conference call.  Selected candidates will be invited for personal interviews at the candidate’s own expense in accordance with State of Washington travel regulations.  Interviewees may be asked to give up to a 20-minute classroom teaching demonstration.
