Earl Deskada - Thailand
Earl Deskada
wants to major in Hotel
Management.
Earl Deskada is
from Thailand. He started at
GRCC in the fall of 2009 as an
Intensive English as a Second Language level 4 student and transferred into
the Academic program in the spring
of 2010.
"Green River has really
helped me to mature in many ways,"
said Earl. When arrived he was only
17 and did not know how sign up for
classes, cook, do laundry.
"Back home everything was done for
me." confessed Earl.
Earl is now a confident 19 year
old. He is taking 20 credits,
has a 3.6 GPA and initatied the
first Thai Student Club on campus.
The Thai Club now has 15 members.
The club volunteers get together
cook and find ways to volunteer in
the community. Last month they
performed at the
Asia Pacific
Cultural Center and more
recently Earl spearheaded efforts to raise money for flood
victims in his homeland of Thailand.
Earl plans to
graduate at the end of winter or
spring quarter and major in Hotel
Management. He would like to
transfer to
University of Nevada, Las Vegas
(UNLV) where they are known for
their outstanding hospitality
program.
Thai Club performs at the Asia
Pacific Cultural Center.
