New Green River President Values International
Education
Green River Community College President Dr. Eileen Ely.
Dr. Eileen Ely became
Green River Community College’s fourth
president in July 2010, following the
retirement of Rich Rutkowski who led
the college for 26 years. Dr. Ely holds
a PhD from the University of Texas at
Austin in education administration with
a major focus on Community College Leadership,
a Master's degree from Iowa State University,
and a Bachelor's degree from Southern
Illinois University.
“At Green River Community College,
we are fortunate to serve almost 1,200
International students from over 45
different countries,” said President
Ely. Green River ranks in the top 20
among all community colleges in the
United States based on International
enrollment (Institute of International
Education Open Doors Report 2010).
“In addition, thousands of domestic
students have origins from all over
the world. Our campus provides a living
laboratory to help prepare all of our
students for success in our increasingly
multicultural and multinational world,”
said President Ely. International students
contribute to the campus and community
through their involvement in class,
student government, activities, and
community service.
The outstanding academic achievement
of our International students and their
transfer record to top US universities,
including University of Washington,
UC Berkeley, UCLA, Cornell, and
many
more, demonstrates that students from
everywhere can go anywhere from Green
River (see
transfer testimonials).
We recognize that there are many
educational options worldwide. President
Ely added: “I want to personally thank
students and their families for considering
to study at Green River.”
