Thumb Drives (USB, Flash, Jump Drives)
Some drives may not work in GRCC labs and the library.
Drives that WILL work:
- Drives from Corsair.
- Drives less than 2 years old:
- without "U3"
- without MiGo
- without security software
- without special partitions
Examples:
- Drives from Corsair.
- Generic brands such as Adata, Emprex (Fry's), Rosewill (NewEgg)
If your flash drive doesn't work...
Any USB drive that must install software to the computer in order to run WILL NOT WORK. However, many brands that try to install software will work after cancelling the error message
If a drive doesn't work on the front USB ports, try the back USB ports which provide more power. Avoid using an extension cable; it may cause data corruption. Some 16GB drives use more power and may need to be plugged into the back of the computer. Use 4GB or smaller drives on front USB ports
Some drives may need to be repartitioned, or have security software removed. This cannot be done in the GRCC labs or library.
If you require data security, consider a Corsair Padlock drive. It uses a PC independent keypad and you assign your own PIN.
The library Information Desk will print a document in an emergency.
