ceremony at South Puget Sound Community College.
Green River Community College students Khoi Pham and Angelica Gonzalez were two of 55 community and technical college students state-wide who were honored at the 13th Annual All-Washington Academic Team celebration on Thursday (March 20) in Olympia. “You have worked your way to the top one homework assignment and test at a time,” said former Gov. Gary Locke, who served up the keynote address. “You’ve met the challenge and are among our state’s best and brightest,” he added. Pham came to Green River from Vietnam. He has attained a 3.87 GPA in the demanding civil engineering program. In addition to his studies, Pham is involved in student government and various campus clubs. He plans to transfer to a four-year university in the fall. As founder of Angelica’s Community Impact Project, Gonzalez not only provides second-hand computers to youth, but she also is an all-star student with a 3.8 GPA in business. She has been the recipient of several college scholarships including the Sprenger Family Scholarship and the Washington State Business and Professional Women’s Foundation Scholarship. She plans on attending a local university in the fall. Pham and Gonzalez, along with the other All-Washington team members, each received a $750 scholarship from KeyBank and Northwest Education Loan Association. They also are eligible for a variety of scholarships from 17 four-year colleges and universities in the state. Members of the All-Washington team are eligible for the All-USA Academic Team, which will announce its team members on April 17. |
