Green River Spotlights New Music Instructor

Chris Stover
Chris Stover is Green River's new music instructor.

Chris Stover doesn't just teach music at Green River he is also a very active performer and composer in the Pacific Northwest and around the world.  Last week Chris's band, More Zero, got a very favorable review in The Seattle Jazz Scene . The write-up refers to a performance which was part of a small festival designed to introduce a new organization and promotional website, http://seattlejazzscene.com, an outstanding source of information about the rich, exciting, and multifaceted jazz community in the Pacific Northwest.

Thanks to Chris and Green River's Music Department, you won't have to go too far to experience the Pacific Northwest music scene. Chris is organizing a series of concerts on campus, the first of which is taking place on November 19 at 8:00 p.m. This concert will feature the wonderful classical pianist Françoise Papillon performing music by Beethoven, Chopin, and others on the Music Department’s brand new Steinway grand piano. Future concerts include North Indian Dhrupad singer Arijit Mahalanabis in January and the thrilling Latin Jazz of Sonando (which also features Chris on trombone) in May.

If you are interested in learning more about music, Green River offers a variety of classes including instrumental, theory and vocal. Chris has developed two new courses: Music in World Culture, which will be offered winter quarter and History of Jazz, which will be offered in the spring.
