The multi-award winning Broadway play “Man of La Mancha” will be presented by Theatre Extempore at Green River Community College, beginning March 11.

Photo of actors on stage“Man of La Mancha” was named best musical of 1966, produced a Tony Award for Richard Kiley as best actor, and gave posterity to one of the most memorable show tunes of all time, “The Impossible Dream.”

The performing ensemble of GRCC’s Drama Department will be at full strength for the production, with a cast of 36, and the show’s three-story set will make use of every inch of the 2,500 square-foot stage of the college’s new performing arts facility.

“Man of La Mancha” is based on Cervantes’ classic novel “Don Quixote” and tells the story of a noble and idealistic knight who, with his faithful squire Sancho Panza, follows his dream of ultimate beauty and purity, doing battles with the powerful enemies of cynicism and brutality who attempt to thwart his quest.

The production runs Fridays and Saturdays, March 11-19, at 8 p.m., with a special benefit performance on March 20 at 7 p.m. for the Green River Childcare Emergency Fund.
