LOCAL EXPLORER OFFERS GLACIER BAY PRESENTATION

(AUBURN, Wash) –
The colorful history of Alaska’s Glacier Bay will be the topic of a presentation by Auburn Geographer and Explorer, Rawhide Papritz, on Friday, March 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Chinook Room (Building 117) at Microsoft’s Redmond West Campus.

Papritz, a nationally-known geography instructor at Green River Community College, will present a series of historic photos in his presentation “Exploring John Muir’s Glacier Bay.”  Muir made his first trip to Glacier Bay with Tlingit Indians in a dugout canoe in 1879, which was 85 years after Captain George Vancouver and his crew of the H.M.S. Discovery detailed the great glacier.  Muir would make two subsequent trips collecting a wealth of data between memorable adventures.

Included in his presentation will be information Papritz collected from his own trip to Glacier Bay with his geography students in a two-week sea-kayaking field trip adventure.

The presentation, sponsored by the Northwest Chapter of the Royal Geographical Society, is free and open to the public.  Additional information is available by calling (206) 782-4797.
