Society of American Foresters (SAF) Announces 2006 Student Award Winners

The July 24 issue of the E-Forester newsletter announces the results of the 2005-2006 Society of American Forester Student Chapter Awards for Outstanding Student Chapter and Student Chapter Website. The winners of the Society American Foresters Outstanding Student Chapter Award are:

  • First Place (tie): Green River Community College
  • First Place (tie): Mississippi State University
  • Second Place: Virginia Tech
  • Third Place: Northern Arizona University

The Outstanding Student Chapter Award recognizes outstanding SAF student chapters in the nation. The Award is based on numerous criteria, including: service to members, service to the Society, service to the forestry school, service to the community, involvement with other natural resource organizations, outside recognition, chapter management, and the supporting letter from the chair or dean of the forestry school and the presentation of the entry.

Carol McKernon, Member Services Manager of the SAF, commends Green River for taking first place in the national competition “Congratulations for an outstanding job! Your Student Chapter is very impressive! With leaders like these students, the profession and the SAF are in good hands!”

All awards will be presented at the 2006 SAF National Convention in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, October 25–29. Additional information about both awards are at the SAF website.
