Trades and Technology Divisions Gear-Up For Annual High School Event
More than 100 high school girls are expected on campus this week to sample
programs in both trades and technology. The annual Try-A-Trade,
Try-A-Technology event is intended to expose high school girls to a
variety of non-traditional female occupations and careers, according to
Jennifer Thornton, director of Tech Prep, which organizes the event.
Thursday’s sessions will focus on the Trades Division programs. Girls from
Auburn High School, Auburn Riverside High School, Tahoma High School, and
Tahoma Junior High will be able to sample two trades programs, for
90-minutes each, during the half-day visit. All five trades programs –
Auto Body, Auto Mechanics, Carpentry, Manufacturing Technology, and
Welding – are participating.
On Friday, the scene shifts to the Technology Division and will include
Aviation, Computer Electronics, Drafting Technology, Engineering,
Geographical Information Systems, and Natural Resources programs.
Students, who have registered for Friday, are expected from high schools
in Auburn, Kent, Tahoma and Sumner.
