International Spotlight Shines on Green River’s Broadcast Program
A delegation of broadcasters and officials from Belarus received a lesson
on college radio and the training of broadcasting students during a
meeting at Green River on Tuesday (March 25). The visitors met with Tom
Evans Krause, broadcast instructor, and student leaders of KGRG.
The
group was in Seattle to increase their knowledge of radio station
management and trends in broadcasting. The World Affairs Council,
organizers of the event, chose Green River’s broadcast program and its
radio stations KGRG and KENU to showcase college broadcasting and
training. Of interest to the Belarus delegation was the differences among
commercial, independent, college, and public radio stations. The visitors
were also interested in broadcast technology and the funding and financial
stability of small radio stations.
Charles Vander Aarde, deputy director of the International Visitor Program
for the World Affairs Council, arranged the visit, which was sponsored by
the U.S. State Department’s International Visitors Program.
Belarus is a former Soviet republic that gained its independence in 1991.
