Sophomore volleyball setter, Rebecca Fister (Gig Harbor HS)

Sophomore volleyball setter, Rebecca Fister (Gig Harbor HS) was named the 2008 Green River Student Athlete of the Year at the annual ASGRCC end of year banquet on Friday by athletic director Bob Kickner.

Fister led the Gators to a 2008 berth in the NWAACC Volleyball tournament as a First Team All-Western Region selection.  She averaged over 10 assists per game for the Gators.  Her academic success garnered her a selection to the All-NWAACC Academic team for volleyball and her team leadership skills also earned her the NWAACC academic leadership award.

"For two years Rebecca has represented the Gator faithful with class, grace, dedication, and attention to her academics," stated Kickner.  "She is a role model for the characteristics of being a true student-athlete."   Following graduation, Fister will continue her academic and athletic careers at Linfield College starting the Fall of 2008.

Also at the banquet freshman soccer midfielder, Azure Bartron (Maple Valley, WA) was awarded the Jack Johnson Memorial award as a returning student athlete who emulates the standards of excellence exemplified by the award.  Named team captain as a freshman, Bartron played a key role in Green River soccer finishing in second place in the Northern Region in 2007.  Individually, she was selected to the All-Northern Region team.  Head Coach Heidi Monuteax continues to rely heavily on Bartron’s leadership both in the classroom and on the field as they build a recruiting class for the 2008 team.
