Two journalism students from Green River walked off with five awards at a recent competition among Washington community college student newspapers.

Sara Olson and Joseph Chouery were the recipients at the annual awards luncheon of the Washington Community College Journalism Association. The 2-year-old organization includes community college members from throughout the state.

Olson is editor in chief of The Current, Green River’s student newspaper. She won second place in the News Photo category, as well as three third-place awards in the Sports News photography, Portrait photography and Review categories.

Chouery won third place in the Individual Commentary category. His column carried the headline, “Attacking Iran would be repeat of same mistake.”
