GRCC Engineering and Physics Clubs Launch Rockets in Enumclaw |
|
Saturday, February 23, 2008 was a surprisingly pleasant day. A group of students, faculty and their families got together at a lot in Enumclaw and had fun launching rockets. Funds for the materials were obtained from the GRCC student clubs organization. Weeks before the event, students worked in their engineering and physics class rooms to build the rockets and the launch mechanism. You can find a link to more pictures of the rocketry event below. GRCC has very active student chapters of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the Society of Physics Students (SPS). On campus they are know respectively as the Engineering Club and the Physics Club. Many of the students are members of both clubs. This particular event was jointly organized by students of both clubs. Co-operative effort between the clubs started last year but has taken off beyond expectations this year. Both clubs have benefitted immensely. Physics instructor Keith Clay remarked that he has not seen this level of student interest and activity in projects outside the class room in all his years at GRCC. All interested students of GRCC are welcome to join either club even if they are not taking science or engineering classes.
