Summer Projects Impact Campus

Map detailing summer 2008 projects.

A number of campus improvements are taking place this summer; however, with the gain will come some pain in the form of minor disruptions and impacts.

A comprehensive project to improve lighting on the south and east sides of campus has begun (see attached map). The original lighting system has exceeded its life cycle with failed wiring, inadequate illumination, and improper controls and switchgear. The most disruptive part of this project will be the underground trenching that will take place. The west side of campus has already undergone this phase. That leaves excavation of P-10, P-11, P-12, and P-13. The entire trenching phase should be completed by the end of the month. The installation of light poles and lamps will occur early fall. The old system will remain in place until the new lights are working. The old lamps and poles will be removed later in the fall.

The PE renovation and addition to IVD are well underway. We are still hopeful that PE will be complete for the start of fall quarter. Disabled parking lot P-9 has been closed temporarily to allow crews to stage materials and equipment near the project. IVD should be done later in the fall.

Crews are also working to replace an underground fuel storage tank in the Maintenance Complex. We are anticipating minor disruptions to traffic in that immediate area. Work should begin around August 1 and last for 6 to 8 weeks.

Please note that Facilities and Campus Safety have been and remain sensitive to the disruptions these projects cause and will continue to accommodate any extraordinary needs and situations as they occur. Your patience is deeply appreciated and is a large factor in allowing us to complete the projects as early as possible.
