New Student Checklist

As a new student, we want to ensure that you have a smooth transition to Green River. Please refer to the tabs below which outlines the six important steps of our Student Success program. If at any time you need guidance or clarification, please stop by Enrollment Services in the Lindbloom Student Center (LSC 274) or call 253-833-9111, ext. 2500.

Congratulations on your admission to GRCC.  Please review the information and steps outlined below and call our Admissions Office at (253) 833-9111, ext. 2500 if you have any questions.

  • Your Student Identification Number (SID) is enclosed with this admissions packet. You will need this number to complete all college transactions
  • To transfer credits from another college download the Transcript Request and Transcript Evaluation Request forms online at: www.greenriver.edu/admisandreg/forms/forms.htm. These forms will guide you through the process of requesting official copies of previous transcripts and requesting an official evaluation of these credits for use at Green River.
  • If you have a disability that requires accommodation, please contact Disability Support Services at (253) 833-9111, ext. 2631.

Students attending Green River have access to many forms of financial assistance. For priority consideration, complete the financial aid application process and submit all forms by:

  • April 15, 2008 (fall ’08 quarter)
  • October 15, 2008 (winter ’09 quarter)
  • January 15, 2009 (spring ’09 quarter)
  • April 15, 2009 (summer ’09 quarter)

Call the Financial Aid Office at 253-833-9111, extension 2449 for additional information.

  • The Workforce Office at 253-833-9111, extension 2211, for information on quick funding options.
  • Veterans and their dependents may qualify for educational benefits.  For information please call (253) 833-9111, ext. 2466.

Accurate skill assessment and course placement supports your academic success. New students are required to take the COMPASS assessment or provide appropriate documentation of prior college placement or coursework. This welcome packet includes a GRCC COMPASS Assessment handout to guide you through this process.

  • Pay the assessment fee at the Cashier’s Office (LSC, second floor); then present receipt and picture identification at the Assessment & Testing Center (RLC-173).
  • Scores are available upon completion of COMPASS; keep your scores in the folder included with this mailing and bring them to your New Student Advising Session.
  • The COMPASS is not administered on Mondays; for current assessment times call (253) 833-9111, ext. 2650 or visit www.greenriver.edu/assessmenttesting.

New students must attend a New Student Advising Session prior to registering for classes.  To schedule your session, contact Career & Advising Center at (253) 833-9111, ext. 2641or at www.greenriver.edu/edplanning/studentadvising If you are transferring credits to Green River, please inform our staff when making your appointment.

  • If you would like to participate in career exploration activities, please call (253) 833-9111, ext. 2641 for an appointment with a career specialist.
  • If you are planning to pursue your coursework exclusively through distance learning, you may contact the Career and Advising Center for assistance at beadvised@greenriver.edu.

Please refer to the dates noted below. These are the dates each quarter that New Student Advising and Registration begins for new students. See step four (above) on how to schedule your advising session.

  • Winter Quarter – November 20, 2007
  • Spring Quarter – February 19, 2008
  • Summer Quarter - May 12, 2008
  • Fall Quarter - May 12, 2008

Please note, students applying for summer or fall quarter will automatically be assigned a registration time to both quarters.

You will be issued a Personal Identification Number (PIN) at your advising session; this PIN is required for registration access. New student registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. For best availability of courses contact the Career & Advising Center today.
